Reykjanes Peninsula

We’ll travel along the lunar landscape of Reykjanes, enroute to the Boutique Hotel Anna, our home for the next 4 nights. Enroute we’ll stop at a few places of interest:

  • Gunnuhver hot springs, a highly active geothermal area of mud pools and steam vents. It’s named after an angry female ghost, Gudrun, whose spirit was trapped in the hot springs by a priest 400 years ago.
  • Grindavik fishing village, one of the most active fishing villages in Iceland.
  • Krysuvik geothermal area, a colorful expanse of steaming vents.
  • Lake Kleifarvatn, a starkly beautiful body of water with black sand shores.

We’ll check into our hotel, have dinner at the onsite restaurant and enjoy a soak in the hot tub prior to bed.

Waterfall & Glacier Fun

Southern Iceland is home to many highlights, surrounded by rugged mountains, glaciers, black beaches and beautiful waterfalls. We will start off this day with a hike towards one of the most beautiful glacier in Iceland, the Sóleimajökull Glacier.

Be ready to be welcomed by gigantic crevasses which are constantly detaching themselves from the glacier. Seeing large pieces of ice falling into the lagoon is not an uncommon occurrence. On most days, we will be able to see huge icebergs floating in the lagoon, a few hundred meters away from the glacier.

After our once-in-a-lifetime trek we’ll continue to explore what the south has to offer – your guide will recommend where to stop for lunch. If weather allows for picnic you may stop at a supermarket or bakery to buy picnic for the day.

  • Vik Village. A great lunch stop, knowing for being extremely picturesque
  • Skogafoss waterfall. Known for its beauty which graces many publication, it’s also famous for its width and height.
  • Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Not only is this waterfall captivating from the front, we’ll walk behind it, a sortof three-dimensional experience.

The Iceland Golden Circle

The next leg of our journey will be to tour the wonders of the famous Golden Circle, the 3 most famous landmarks in Iceland.

We’ll head to Þingvellir National Park, the rift valley where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia meet. Þingvellir has a huge importance to Iceland, historically, culturally and geographically. This is the place where the first representative democracy was established around 900 by the Vikings Chieftains of Iceland.

Afterwards, we’ll visit a geobakery and sample geothermal cooked bread which has been baking in the warm earth for 24 hours, followed by a delicious lunch at Friðheimar Tomato Farm, a locally-owned business that grows tomatoes in elaborate greenhouses.

The South Coast & Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

The scenery doesn’t end there! We will then travel along the South towards the National Park of Vatnajokull which is over 12.000 square kilometers (4.600 square miles), making this the largest Natural Park in Europe. Within the National Park you will find Europes largest glacier, Vatnajokull, glacial lagoons, volcanoes, hot springs, green and lush fields, lava fields and black sand desert.

Afterwards, we’ll head to one of my favorites, the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. The lake is the lowest point in the country and filled with icebergs drifting towards the sea, often with seals lounging on top. The blocks of ice coming off the glacier are typically 30m high, in dramatic shades of white and bright blue.

Fitted with proper outdoor water repellant gear, we’ll jump into our Zodiacs, zipping along amongst the icebergs, seals and picturesque scenery of Jökulsárlón. It is packed with floating icebergs in various shades of white and blue. You will join a 1 hour boat tour where you sail among the floating icebergs.

Reykjadalur Hot Springs Hike and Soak Adventure

Strap on your hiking boots and pack your swimsuit! We’ll board our trusty sprinter van and travel to the charming village of Hveragerdi. Our destination? The Reykjadalur Hot Springs. The hike is roughly 45 min – 1 hour each direction. The entire experience ends up being around 3 hours to include hike time and time spent soaking in the river. The hike is easy to moderately difficult. Trust me: the journey is well-worth the destination.

After a casual hike and soak we’ll hike back to the parking area, stopping first to enjoy a hot drink and a snack before venturing to the Reykholt area for 2 nights. On our way to Husafell Area, we’ll explore waterfall Hraunfossar and Barnafossar.

Snaefellsnes Peninsula

We have the extraordinary privilege of meeting with an infamous storyteller who will meet with you at the cultural house where she will share some stories. Afterwards, we’ll continue along the peninsula with the Snaefellsjokull Glacier towering above us. It’s known not only for its beauty but also for its occult powers, a draw for many visitors.

  • Ytri Tunga Beach, a popular stop for the cutest seals ever!
  • Ölkelda, a naturally carbonated spring where we can drink water straight from the ground.
  • Budir and its charming little wooden church.
  • Stroll along Djupalonssandur Beach and its black sand.
  • Explore Grundafjordur village.

Our journey home follows the northern part of the peninsula, ultimately arriving in the charming little village of Stykkisholmur where you can visit a local gallery before heading back to hotel.

Bogarnes, Glymur Waterfall Hike and Welcome to Reykjavik!

We will then travel along the charming fjord of Hvalfjordur and through the Borgarnes District and make some interesting stops along the way, including:

  • Deildartunguhver – Iceland’s most powerful hot spring
  • Town of Borgarnes – ideal to buy picnic for the day

We will also be hiking up to Glymur waterfall, which is considered one of the top waterfall hikes, and then making our way to Reykjavik, our final stop of this Iceland Adventure Tour.

Most of Reykjavik’s landmarks such as Tjornin Pond, city Hall, the Parliament and Hallgrimskirkja are located in the downtown area which is also rich in culture life. With is collection of warm cafes, restaurant and shops is considered to be the liveliest part of Reykjavik.

Snorkeling at Silfra Fissure & Sky Lagoon

Immerse yourself in the clearest water in the world and float between two continents in Iceland. The astonishing clarity of the water reveals a mesmerizing underwater world full of colours you don’t see above the surface.

Silfra is a fissure created by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates cutting through Iceland. The Silfra fissure fills with glacial water that has been filtered underground for decades through hardened, porous lava rock. The filtering process of the glacial water makes Silfra one of the clearest bodies of water on earth with up to 120 meters (393 feet ) of visibility.

Make sure to drink some of the Silfra water while you are snorkeling! Who knows when you will be able to drink water so pure again.

After an exhilarating snorkeling trip, it’s time to relax! The Sky Lagoon is a thermal spa inspired by nature and culture. Set on the edge of the North Atlantic Ocean, we’ll relax and unwind watching the skies and sea. Known for its 7-step Sky Lagoon ritual, we’ll spend the afternoon here, delighting in the healing waters, having an optional massage, drinking wine and soaking our last hours of our Icelandic journey.
