Explore The Classic Wonders & Abroad A Sleeper Train

We begin our adventure in Cairo and kick off this trip with a highlight, which is visiting the pyramids of course! Rasha, our Egyptologist, will provide a fascinating intro to the 3 pyramids: Cheops, Khafre and Menakaure. We’re then off to see the infamous Sphinx. The Great Sphinx was built to watch of the royal tombs and is a sight to behold.

Then, we will take an educational turn and head to The Egyptian Museum of Antiquities Museum followed by shopping at Khan el-Khalili, the famous bazaar and souk in the historic center of Cairo.

As the evening rolls around, come on board the The Ernst Watania Sleeping Train to Luxor, which is an evocative way to travel through Egypt’s countryside, setting you up for the next leg of the journey.

A Day In Luxor

After an adventurous (and hopefully restful night!) we’ll arrive in Luxor by sleeper train. Highlights in Luxor include exploring the Temple of Luxor, the Temples of Karnak and the Valleys of the Kings and Queen. Designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites, you’ll be in awe of the grandeur.

Bonus Adventure: If you’ve always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon this is the place to do it! We recommend waking up early to catch the sunrise.

4-Night Nile Sail aboard a Dahabiya

The next leg of our journey will be at sea. The Dahabiya Nile Cruise is an authentic and romantic way to travel along the river, very much like in the time of the Pharaohs. Sailing on the Nile in a Dahabiya to Aswan will enable us to see many places rarely seen by tourists. We will stop for sights that are seldom seen on the regular Nile Cruises and will get very close to villages along the river and real-life in Egypt. Our days will be spent touring, lounging, cooking, dancing, shopping and immersing ourselves in Nile river living.

Our first stop will be El-Kab Necropolis, the ancient city of Nekheb. We’ll explore the ancient villages, take opportunity of fantastic photo ops amidst the ruins and visit a local’s home for tea.

Then, we will sail to Besao Island, a traditional fishing village, followed by Gebal El-Selsela where the cliffs on both sides close to the narrowest point along the length of the entire Nile. With the river life quite active at this point we’ll see what our day brings.

Afterwards, we will sail to Kom Ombo and visit the temples of Haroeris and Sobek, followed by Daraw, a village famous for its markets, beauty and welcoming people. And lastly? The Nubian village of El-Koubania is awaiting us.  

After 4 lovely days at sea, it’s time to bid the captain and crew good-bye. We’ll explore Aswan, visit the Philae temple, have lunch at a traditional village cafe and have our last experience of quiet Nile life befoe heading back to Cairo.

A Traditional Hammam experience

Before flying home, let’s pamper ourselves with a traditional hammam experience! From a steam room to a loofah scrub to a body mask, we’ll experience one of the most ancient and traditional rituals around. 

Not a spa person? A visit to Coptic Cairo, Bab Zuweila or the Citadel each provide rich history and a perfect ending to our once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
